What is an Arc Flash Hazard Warning Label?
An Arc Flash Hazard Warning Label in short is a way to warn workers about the potential Arc Flash Hazard that may be ahead. An evaluation of arc flash and shock protection needs to be performed on each piece of equipment operating at 50 volts or more and not put into a de-energized state at your facility. The evaluation will determine the actual boundaries (i.e. prohibited, limited, restricted, etc,.) in order to inform your workers of what personal protective equipment must be worn prior to approaching the unit.
An Arc Flash Hazard Warning Label must be affixed to the equipment once the evaluation is completed. This label must be readily accessible and viewable to employees who may work on the energized equipment. An Arc Flash Hazard Warning Label may seem like a small step, but it can be the difference in preventing serious injury and even death.
